A word about the somewhat unique system of the game. Every time you enter a dungeon you start at level 1. This is regardless of whether you cleared the previous dungeon or died etc. You level up very quickly so this is in place to prevent you from becoming way too powerful after repetitively grinding a lot of content, and this game does have a lot of grinding for sure. On the other hand, your gears have levels as well and those are not lost upon death or clearing of dungeons (but some challenge dungeons forbid bringing gears). In addition, there are a lot of ways for you to customize your gears, like enhancements or seals which are basically sockets and gems in other similar games. So even if you died in the story dungeon (as you probably are expected to at some point), you only lose money and level is irrelevant anyways. After improving your gears you will quickly breeze through the early parts of the dungeon and proceed to the next difficulty spike etc.
I like the combat system involving clever management of items, positioning, and risk management. Basically exactly what you would expect from a good roguelike. Once again, this game has a lot of content to grind through, every dungeon can be explored multiple times and there are a lot of challenge dungeons.
I think the game actually has good graphics and music for what it is (a doujin game), but you probably can't expect those to be quite on the level of a completely commercial game. This is a game for Touhou fans who can also enjoy roguelikes. It has good voice acting, a Touhou-esque main story that gets the job done and a bit of fluff involving various Touhou characters.
Some downsides and confusions: the translation is just okay, I spotted at least a few cases where it's quite different from what's spoken in Japanese and at least one occasion where the translation is plain bad (translating "when I was young" to "back in elementary school", a bit lore breaking). I'm still not sure if this is a port of Fushigi 3 or 3 Plus (EDIT: it's 3 plus so there's some bonus content). Also inventory management is quite cumbersome, this is because by design every action like enchanting your equipment, mixing ingredients, putting items in containers etc takes a single turn. So you will need to menu every action separately and you can't say just make 10 healing items. Given how grindy this game is people who already enjoy it probably don't mind that much but I can see aspects like this being very off-putting.
Japanese only Voice Acting (JP VA) with english subs, It came with 2 GAMES instead of just one which is great for the price I got it at around $39.99 and the powerup platformer game is Touhou Double Focus (phsyical copy, no Download code), came with a small artbook with some commentary which is a nice bonus indeed.
Firmware: 1.00, at the time of this writing I had no suspicious Day 1 patches which act like DRM to push consumers to rebuy game in the future. Game only crashed once on me but I suspect it was the new PS4 update 4.55 which was acting buggy on my Gen1 PS4.
The game does have 3 DLC packs available WHICH i wish they used that effort to fix the FLAWS which keep this game from being better.
This game is quite difficult and frustrating which has resulted in a good number of cheap deaths in a dungeon, its difficulty can be off-putting and turn away newcomers to the franchise or rogue-like rpg's. The game does feel satisfying in terms of content but they really SHOULD have FIXED annoyances which cheaply bloats up gameplay hours like fast travels and equipment. This game is grindy (a form of repetitiveness of gameplay) some people like grinding and some others don't.
A tip: Invest in a good set with green seals like Stupa/Judgment board/ Hakari charm which those maxes out at lv 90 except charm which has lv99, removable seals are VERY important too and make a difference. Farm with Preserve Gaps and you can rake in a good amount of gold with sold equipment.
I too am new to the franchise and it did fine by me.

For the other game "Touhou Double Focous" its one of those platformer/adventurer games with power ups similar to Metroid and it too is a slight challenge to it. Firmware 1.00 and PS4 Gen1 4.55, the game is running smoothly and so far so good its stable no crashes yet. The powerup platformer focuses on Two playable characters Momoji and Aya who get sucked into a magical book. Still English subtitles with Japanese VA, I haven't completed it yet but its quite charming as well with its atmosphere and world.
