Skye Warren is been one of my favorite writers. This book is great example of her character development. Avery, the young 20 year old virgin, family has fallen in disgrace from society. Gabriel a very wealthy, older businessman, who played a part in bringing her father’s illegal & unscrupulous business dealings to justice.
Under considerable duress Avery decides her only option of acquiring money is by auctioning off her virginity, to save her family’s home and continue to provide care for her father.
This begins Avery and Gabriel’s twisted relationship beginning with their initial meeting at the Den.
At the auction, Avery is surprised as the bidding abruptly comes to an end when Gabriel comes to the front of room and stands facing Avery and bids $1,000,000.00! Of course, this is the winning bid and Gabriel quickly removes Avery from the stage.
Avery is now his for the next 30 days to do with as he pleases. There is plenty of heat, drama & sexual tension between Avery and Gabriel.
“The Pawn” is the 1st book of a trilogy & ends with many unresolved issues. The story continues in “The Knight”.

"The Pawn" by Skye Warren is a gripping read that kept me engaged from start to finish, finishing it in just one day. The narrative revolves around socialite Avery, forced to sell her virginity to cover her father's medical bills. Enter Gabriel, a man conned by Avery's father, who pays a million dollars for 30 days with her.

While the storyline is compelling, I found the characters lacking depth and wished for more extensive world-building to fill in some gaps. The narrative could benefit from additional exploration of the characters' backgrounds and more context for the world they inhabit.

The book ends on a cliffhanger, which felt somewhat abrupt, leaving me eager for more resolution. Overall, "The Pawn" offers a captivating plot but could enhance its impact with more nuanced character development and world-building.

I will be reading the next instalment to see what happens next.

Skye Warren has been one of my favorite authors since I started reading in this genre 5 or 6 years ago. This book is great example of how she develops her primary characters. One is the young 20 year old virgin, Avery, whose family has fallen in disgrace from the upper echelon of society. The other is a very wealthy, older businessman, Gabriel, with a questionable reputation who played a significant part in bringing her father’s illegal & unscrupulous business dealings to justice.
With no other choice available to her, Avery goes to the Den; a very exclusive gentleman’s club in an attempt to secure a loan from a notorious loan shark. While there another option is presented to her that has the potential of earning her a much more significant amount of money by auctioning off her virginity! Under considerable duress, Avery decides this is her best option to secure enough money to save her family’s home and continue to provide care for her father.
This begins Avery and Gabriel’s twisted relationship beginning with their initial meeting at the Den. Then, Gabriel oversees Avery’s photoshoot for the auction, not knowing at the time that he will be prevent the revealing & provocative photos from being published on the internet. Finally, at the auction, Avery is surprised as the bidding reaches over $200,000.00 and comes down to an unknown man who is already accompanied by a stunning young lady and the man she knows as “Uncle” Landon, supposedly her father’s best friend.
The bidding abruptly comes to an end when Gabriel comes to the front of room and stands facing Avery and bids $1,000,000.00! Of course, this is the winning bid and Gabriel quickly removes Avery from the stage, covers her with his jacket (she had stripped to her panties) and rushes her from the room. Avery is now his for the next 30 days to do with as he pleases. There is plenty of drama & sexual tension between Avery and Gabriel and concurrent plot lines emerging in the background. “The Pawn” is the 1st book of a trilogy & ends with many unresolved issues. The story continues in “The Knight”.

Ich habe dieses Buch kostenlos gekauft und ich war einfach begeistert davon. Ich konnte es nicht mehr aus der Hand legen.
Avery ist eine gute Mischung aus einer jungen, erwachsenen Frau mit großen Verantwortung und Unschuld/Naivität, die aber nervig wird. Sie wird plötzlich in eine Welt rein geworfen, mit dem sie vorher nichts zu tun hatte. Gabriel ist sexy und mysteriös und auch wenn er es nicht zu geben will, doch von Anfang an in Avery verliebt.
Obwohl dieses Buch ganz klar nach Erotik schreit, steht es trotzdem nicht extrem im Vordergrund. Die Geschichte verfällt nicht in den Hintergrund, wie es manchmal in anderen Büchern passiert. Es ist eine gut gelungene Mischung.
Wer gerne in diesem Genre unterwegs ist, wird durch dieses Buch nicht enttäuscht werden.
Einziger Haken, wenn man es so nennen will, ist dass es noch 2 weitere Bücher gibt, die dann Geld kosten. Aber ohne die Fortsetzungen ist diese Geschichte einfach nicht abgeschlossen.
