Hourly History is a wonderful series of books that one can obtain, as I do, every Friday for free if you sign up for it. Even to pay later for the books a few dollars is worth every penny because these books, which can be read in their entirety in an hour, are filled with information that we should know and enjoy. And they are written in an easy to read manner.
This book is about Mozart the master composer of more than six hundred musical works in his short lifetime. He died at age 35. He began to dedicate his life to music at age three when he wrote his first composition. He embarked on a European tour for the first time with his father at age six to make money, and was granted a court appointment at thirteen. He figured out how music could pluck at a person’s heartstrings. Among his many masterpieces is “The Marriage of Figaro,” “The Magic Flute,” and the simple music for “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”
He began life as a celebrated prodigy, but most of his life was later filled with disappointments, jealousy, claims that he was a fake, that he copied works by others or made small changes in another’s work. He was even unable for a long while to get a job as a court musician and once, when he secured such a job, he was soon fired from it. Yet before he died, unlike most artists who are not renowned while alive, he was acclaimed as a great musician.

Missing multiple chapters!
My son received this book for Christmas and was so excited to read it. He started today and noticed the first page is the middle of a chapter. The next page is chapter 7. We are missing half of the book! Beware before purchasing. Sadly we no longer have the gift receipt so we cannot return.
