Installation: I'm computer savvy but it has been over 10 years since I built a computer, so I was nervous - but following the included quick guide, I had installed my Ryzen 7 1800x, and two eight gigabyte sticks of crucial vengence memory, and before I knew it I was placing the board into the case (mid tower CoolerMaster MasterBox 5). A few turns of a screw driver later and I'm closing up our patient and getting ready for first boot. Cross your fingers!
First boot: AMAZING! I cannot believe that I nailed the installation on the first shot. The computer posts and the bios pops up - and let me tell you the Bios is unlike any I have ever seen before. The interface is graphical and it really is way more intuitive than I expected. It even offers an automatic Overclock feature that left my jaw agape.
Pros: Rugged design, simple installation, and extremely easy and intuitive bios and features. I had windows installed in under 10 minutes.
Cons: None, except of course the new x470 is coming soon, and I'm so impressed with this motherboard I will undoubtedly buy the next gen when it arrives. Also, in order to be entered into a longshot sweepstakes to probably not win more MSI products, according to the official rules, I have to make the following untrue statement: I am writing this review to enter into the MSI Reward Program. Now that I've said that, I can tell you honestly and with my whole heart that I mean everything I have said about this motherboard, and in fact had to come back an edit it to include that statement. It's really stupid, and it's not true, nor have I been influenced in any way by promotion or any compensation of any kind. - but maybe I'll get lucky and win a stuffed animal dragon! lol
Final thoughts: I'm a big MSI fan, and they've earned it through great customer service and warenty and just overall feature and performance of every one of their products that I have used so far. Do yourself a favor, and even if you choose a different model, choose MSI - a decision you will never regret, and that's my word.

Beautiful Motherboard and a pretty easy overclocker. My R5 1600 has had a fabulous time in this X370 board, and paired with a liquid cooler, I can push a little over 4.0ghz even with a Gen 1 Ryzen 5 1600 (about 4.2 max) [in case you don’t know, Gen 1 Ryzens are known to have trouble with single core OCing]. The M2 cooler is great, and I don’t actually mind t being by the PCIe slots, it doesn’t bother me. Otherwise, it only has 2 USB 2.0’s, 5 3.1’s, and a Type C. I’ve always liked MSI for giving better port to price ratio than Asus. I got this board in the Carbon Box for 125 new, and it beats any board for that price imo.
LED/Look:
Stunning. RGB lighting with 17 customizable effects on the MSI logo (bottom right), the GAMING PRO logo (top left), and two sides (top right and left). The Rainbow setting is my favorite, and more and more products are becoming compatible with Mystic Light, MSI’s RGB ecosystem. My InWin Polaris fans look great with the MoBo. I believe there are 4 to 5 4 pin fan headers, and obviously 3.0/2.0 and all the other necessary bells and whistles, so you’re set on ports (I doubt you’ll need any internal splitter).
Overall:
Great board, and easy to OC even for newcomers. If you are blinded by the RGB craze (like someone that’s definietly not me), and like MSI, this board is for you. X370 is pretty great for all Ryzen CPU’s

Overall:
Great board, and easy to OC even for newcomers. If you are blinded by the RGB craze (like someone that’s definietly not me), and like MSI, this board is for you. X370 is pretty great for all Ryzen CPU’s
Pros:
- Board works with F4-3200C14D-16GTZKW RAM at the full speed. (QVL verified and from advise of one of the reviewers here) although, needs current version of bios to work.
- Just enough USB slots for what I need. Can always use a hub or something, but why pay double for a flashy board just for a few more.
- PS/2 port which made installing Win-7 easier. Background: Win7 will not recognize USB until drivers are installed so without a mouse/keyboard, you don't have any input until you do so. PS/2 will work for that purpose. My guess is MS is making it difficult for people since they want to continue pushing their ad/spyware infested windows 10.
- All drivers worked. No need to do lengthy troubleshooting and searching for others not on the disc.
- Clear instructions on hooking everything up.
- Plenty of room to install Noctura DH14 + mod kit CPU cooler.
- BIOS update to latest version without trouble.
- 6 SATA ports. Usually seen only 2 or 4 unless you got a higher end board with 6 or 8. Maybe times are changing.
Cons:
- Stock bios version was over 6 months old. Required updating to use RAM to full potential. I think they should at least ship with a current bios as I don't think it sat in the warehouse 6 months. Minor issue, and easily remedied, though.
- Takes a long time to POST. That was like my 990FX board, although this wasn't as bad. I don't know if there's a "fast boot" option or setting that mitigates this. This is also minor as I usually leave it on.
- USB 2.0 ports not working right with VMWare. Problem is some devices don't get recognized and can't connect them to VM. Still working on a fix for that.
- No optical audio out. I was used to this being standard on more expensive Asus boards, however I didn't see spending double to get it. I didn't even bother to look, which was foolish, however, the onboard audio still works satisfactorily.
- Too few cables/accessories included for full build. Probably standard for knocking 100 bucks off the price. I re-purposed the others, but others may want to know, it only comes with 2 SATA cables and no USB front/back plates.
- Clocking/tweaking unclear and not covered in instructions. I matched my ram to 14/14/14/34 with the "try it" mode, however it sets the voltage at 1.36 instead of 1.35 and I can't change it. I have excellent cooling so I tried and ran MEMTEST with no errors and it's been solid for a while. CPU clocking ("Game mode?") is vague. I turned it on/off without noticing a difference. The 1800x is already lightning fast and at 3700mhz right now. I would opt for more of an "energy saver" mode as I like a quiet PC that runs cool.
- Boot device priority unclear. I can't pick a specific device, only the type. Still got it working fairly quickly with default settings.
- Garbageware on the drivers CD. This seems to be typical with many brands/boards. I don't want some "audio control center" tray icon and several others. I just want the simple driver, please.
Other thoughts:
- Never tinkered with RGB lighting. Don't care for it. I know some people had trouble, but even if so, doesn't bother me.
- Good board to buy for a Ryzen build.
- Will work with Win/7 as long as you follow the guides commonly posted for ps/2. No need to slip-stream stuff like with ones with no port.
- To update bios, the folder structure from unzipping the file needs to be intact or it won't recognize it. Something that troubled me for a while, I figured I'd save someone the trouble who is reading this. e.g.: X:\biosversionfolder\bios.file instead of X:\bios.file (Don't update the bios unless you are having specific issues and it fixes that specific problem)
- CPU runs 36 degrees idle, 54 under full load with Noctura cooler and default fan settings and default CPU settings. (Probably plenty of room to overclock for those who wish to) No slot for second CPU fan, however one is labeled "pump fan". I'm guessing for water coolers. It's just a re-labeled chassis fan slot so I used it for one of the CPU fans.
- Superfluous hdmi/DVI ports on MB. Obviously it would be a huge waste to buy this MB for "gaming" without a hardware graphics card. Nobody is going to use these, right? What's the point here?

Set up with latest BIOS (v.7A32v1C). OS Windows 10 Pro. Installed latest Chipset, USB drivers, etc. Running 2X m.2 Samsung EVO 960 500 GB SSDs with 6 TB WD NAS HDDs. 32 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 DDR4 ram. Went straight to 1.35V. and copped a stable 4.1 gig Overclock immediately on a Ryzen 5 1600X CPU cooled with Corsair Hydro Series H60 waterblock and backed up with a pair of Noctua 120 mm Fans, temps never get above 40 deg C. Windows boots in under 8 secs and runs smooth as butter. With a Radeon R9 290 Graphics Card plus an NVidia Quadro 4000 Graphics card for my CAD 3D rendering over 6 cores and 12 threads, I achieve amazing graphics capability. All games graphics max out at Ultra settings and its rare to get below 100fps. Whats NOT to love here! This setup is a BEAST!! This is my fourth build in as many years and Overclocking has never been this easy.
So far no cons.
PROS:
I have found all of the software easy to use and had no hardware issues plus the board looks stunning. Sadly I am still waiting on my new gpu so I have to make do with my old HD6950 for now. I have included a picture below but my smart phone camera does not do it justice. In some reviews I also saw people complain about slow boot times. My system boots from power off >>>> windows desktop in 13.2 seconds which is wickedly fast compared to my old system with just a mechanical hard drive. As a nice added feature the fastest ports on the I/O also have red LED's inside them which I thought was a neat touch.
