What I was really looking for was an affordable player that can do one simple thing, something that apparently nobody in the small MP3 player business understands or cares enough to add the minor additional programming to accomplish. I'm talking about true random shuffle of a folder, album, or playlist with no repeating of songs until the group of songs have all played once. It really isn't hard to program this , nor should it be difficult to see why something like this would be desirable. The way players shuffle now is ridiculous. Their logic is such that the same song could conceivably keep replaying, based on a roll of the n-sided dice. None of them track the songs which have already played so they don't play again within a session. Odd and frustrating.
I figured that this company, with UK representation, would at least reply with an answer such as yes/no/unsure when I asked them if such shuffle operation was built into their player; or perhaps they'd inform me about a confusing series of nonsensical button presses which would enable the hidden feature, or maybe that is already how they program their player (since none of these products list whether shuffle is true no-repeat shuffle or not). Their reply couldn't have been more worthless. He instructed me on the basic manner of 'how to shuffle'. Huh. So I replied that my question was not addressed, went over it to make sure I typed it in English and that it made sense, resent it, and they replied that they already told me how to shuffle - as in "shuffle off"! Thanks, Oakcastle!
FWIW I ended up using an old Android phone for shuffling playlists properly, along with an app called Real Shuffle Player, available for free at the Google Play Store.
The clip also seems stable, especially if you have a belt that fits it, but I generally clip it to my necklace or my shirt..... because who wears belts anymore? (I kid, I kid.) The size is so small that with Bluetooth headphones, it literally feels non-existent in terms of weight, which is another great big plus.
Because the player is so basic, the emphasis is on the sound and not the fancy interface, which fits my needs perfectly. I have a Sansa that I used as a Rockbox that isn't as good as this.... although if there was a Rockbox installation for this MP3 player, I'd probably install it...... not Rockbox's fault. Just not as good a player, and it was more expensive. I'd still have it if I hadn't dropped ice coffee all over it..............
If you listen to music and podcasts as much as I do, this player is completely, totally worth it. The last thing that makes it a total winner for me is that I live in a city with a Metro system, and with all my media downloaded, I don't lose sound underground.
And OF COURSE you can do all this with your phone, even old ones, but I need to save that battery for directions and, you know, being able to call people. In the age of the pandemic, people tend to like video calls, which sucks battery *so* much faster. An MP3 player is a great answer to this problem, especially since the battery life on a player with so few fancy features is incredibly long. Thank you so much for a great product- just putting it out there that I'd love to be a beta tester for anything you have coming down the pike. Your attention to detail is incredible.
