Adam Barrow, of 'The Reluctant Ghost Whisperer' by Neptune Flowers, hires Johnny, a man between jobs who needs temporary work. The job he's hired for is to help Adam clean up some land nearby an old house that is said to be haunted. While working, they start to hear things like music or singing that are NOT coming from their radio. Adam admits that he's relieved he's not alone because the whole place scares him. All week they get the feeling that they are being watched. Johnny flirts with Adam; he is flattered, but wonders why Johnny would be interested in someone like him. Although they never put a proper name to their relationship, their affair becomes more; they are passionate, happy couple. All seems to be going well until Johnny, without any explanation, leaves. Adam is heartbroken and beats himself up for falling hard for someone he barely knows.
It's six months later; Adam is in the local pub with some of his friends, when he spies Johnny across the room. A rush of emotion hits Adam. At first, Adam is angry because Johnny left him so suddenly. At the same time, he longs to talk to Johnny, or most of all, rush into his arms and tell him how much he has missed him. Johnny doesn't look as happy as Adam expects that he would and is angry at himself for noticing. His emotions are swirling around him like a tornado. Adam doesn't know whether he should leave before Johnny sees him or stay and act like he's doing fine without him.
Adam decides to go outside, feeling further away from Johnny than ever. Yet, he still can't make himself leave. The glimmer of hope is back, hope that he can have Johnny in his bed again, even if it's for one night and he has to start grieving all over again. His friend, Nick, comes out to see about him and tries to convince him to come back in and speak to Johnny, telling Adam that Johnny has asked about him. When he will not go back in, Nick takes him home. Before Nick can leave, Johnny rides up on his bike. Adam decides it's best to talk to him and try to clear the air. Johnny says the last thing Adam expected to hear; he tells Adam he loves him and leaving him was the biggest mistake he's ever made.
This is an intense love story, told in time sequences beginning with the present and having flashbacks to the past. The theme is an old one, but just as relevant as ever, almost losing the most important thing you have by being afraid of commitment and not trusting your lover enough to give him time to understand what was happening in his life. I adored both Johnny and Adam. The writing was so intense that I hurt right along with them and felt their passion as if I were there. Thanks, Neptune, for a beautiful story of love, loss, and redemption, with a few ghosts mixed in. Originally reviewed at Rainbow Book Reviews.

All you need is love… and a bit of paranormal activity to spice up your life!
Adam Barrow’s life changed completely the day he met Johnny Sparrow. He discovered love, sex and heartbreak. He also discovered that there is much more to reality than meets the eye, and that sometimes you have to be brave to fight for love, and to face what you fear most…
This is such a great story! It is the perfect mixture of ghost story, romance, mystery and humour. I loved both Adam and Johnny, their exchanges are hilarious, their relationship both broke my heart and made me laugh aloud. The oh-so-mundane ghost are also comical, their exchanges a very successful mixture of creepy and absurd.

First, I have to confess, I did not make any assumptions from the get-go as to who the narrator was in the first chapter, and I think that made the first half of the book with its flashbacks a little more mysterious, eerie, and suspenseful. Was the narrator a ghost, stranger, stalker...I didn't know who it was or what the connection to Johnny was. Therefore, other readers may not have the same experience of shivers that I did. After things were clarified in Chapter 6, there was a lot less mystery and suspense, and it became more a normal romance, albeit with ghosts. It was still a very enjoyable, sweet love story, but it was like reading a different story in the first half and second half for me. I loved Adam's character most, because he seemed so fragile, whereas Johnny seemed more confident and self-assured. I loved Nick and his support of Adam, too. This is a funny, sweet, sexy, medium angst story with a wonderful ending. I wouldn't classify this as a horror story, because there is minimal gore or danger, but that was just fine for me. I guarantee that after reading about Adam's visualizations, you will never look at a whisk the same way again.

I am new to this author and I must say we are off to a great start. I loved the characters however it was a great book. It was sad when Johnny had to walk away from Adam. Regardless of the reason it was easy to see how much this broke Adam. This is a short story packed with lots of ghosts mixed in with some steam in the bedroom. I truly wished this story was longer as I wanted at the end.

It was a lovely book to read. I loved the main characters and I found some particular interest in the beginning of each chapter that was so bittersweet. A little angst that I always love in a book, but not too much that made it hard to read.
It was a very enjoyable read. It is the first book that I read from the author. I did have a few expectations that weren’t truly meet. I was expecting more horror, as this was part of a horror anthology that it’s previous installments have been perfect delivering also a little bit of dark humor, which I love. On that matter, I would like it to be a little spookier than it was, but considering it individually, it was really a fun story to read.
What I liked the most was the sorrowful emotions. The yearning felt so real, I truly loved that part. I couldn’t read fast enough to get to a point where I could know what was going on. Adam and Johnny were nice characters, but I think Adam was the one I care the most. Their relationship was so sweet, some of their interactions made me smile a lot.
It does have some paranormal elements, but I guess it wasn’t the stronger part of the book. I still liked it too and sure, there were some spooky moments, but I got more interested on their relationship than the actual mystery. Overall it was a fun book to read, surely will be keeping a track on the author.
