Very sweet romance and recovery story

I read this over two days, which says something, because I don't usually stick with original stories past the first few chapters! However, I'm a fan of Ms. Lux's other works, and know her work is very good quality. On the story itself (no spoilers here!): It's a sweet romance, very light on the angst. I was definitely expecting more angst/drama since this does touch on some serious themes of addiction, abuse, and other serious personal conflicts. The author manages to acknowledge these issues as a relevant theme without letting them take over the story. The werewolf subculture felt integrated and natural within the universe, and worked well within the sex scenes, particularly. Overall, the buildup of both the romance and the tension to the crisis was well done, and there is what I think is an unusual and interesting take on the antagonist. It made the HEA worth it. I was intrigued by the supporting characters, and will be looking for more of this particular universe/series!

I debated for a while on whether I wanted to give this book three or four stars. I decided that it was well written enough, emotional enough, and I enjoyed it enough that it does deserve four stars. I am anxious to read more in the series, and that's a big compliment coming from someone who normally doesn't care for the mpreg genre. I generally give a first book in the series a try if I think the story sounds good but never go on to read more of the series.
I'm hoping that the next book is about Adam, not only did I really like him but I also was left wanting to know a lot more about him. There was a lot more information I wanted from this story but I trust that most of the questions I'm left with will be answered in future books of the series.

There were a few parts that seemed to drag on a bit and I found myself wanting to skip paragraphs and sometimes pages. I really want to list a specific part of the book but I can't without spoilers, so I'll just say it was particularly hard to read a part that drags out what happened before an event when I already knew what had happened.

Still, it was good, and well written, and I look forward to reading more of the series.

Reading Dessa's writing is like sinking into a warm bath. You think to yourself, "Ah, I'm going to sit back, relax, and enjoy this." If you like stories where someone who deserves help and love and care gets some help and love and care, you will appreciate this story. The details of these characters and their lives together felt very real, and I appreciated the worldbuilding and how everything we learned about werewolf culture and history was very skillfully woven in and never felt like clunky exposition. I giggled, I fanned myself during the sex scenes, and I may have shed a tear or two but probably that was just dust in my eye whatever man I wasn't crying. In any case, if you like alphas, omegas, and satisfying stories, curl up with Omega Required and enjoy a treat.

This is a long and lovely book about the making of an Alpha/omega pair. This isn’t a fated mates tale, and there’s no insta-love. There’s drama, but it’s much more quiet than some of this author’s other works. At its core, it is a love story, one that brought me to tears more than once. It held my interest completely; I only put it down to make meals, then went right back to reading. I had borrowed it through Kindle Unlimited, but as soon as I finished it, I bought it for my collection. I know it’s a book I’ll read again.

I loved the world the author created for this book, and am thrilled that she intends to write more about these characters and this place. I can’t wait for the next book, but I will gladly be patient if the second installment is as good as this one.

I really was sucked in to this book. Great characters, world building and interesting story. Things fell apart from me at the 70% point in the book. The point of conflict was kind of weirdly cobbled together and the characters reaction to this plot twist was not believable. I felt like I was watching this incredible building being erected only for it to fall like a cheap deck of cards. For a book I actually paid for I expected a better more fluent ending that continued to reflect the characters I initially fell in love with. I give this 3.5 stars because I did finish it but I skimmed large sections of the ending because it was painful to endure.

And I adored the relationship between Rory and Beau - the tenderness and the care, and the way they learned to trust each other. Just so lovely.

The suspense was really well done, too - I wasn’t sure how the Amy plot would be resolved, and it kept me on the edge of my seat.

I really enjoyed this book, it was very hard to put down. Loved the relationship between Beau and Rory, it was so sweet and progressed at a very believable rate. And I think the issues from Rory's past were dealt with beautifully and respectfully. I really hope there will be another book soon because I want more from this word that has been built so artfully, as it is a super fascinating take on werewolves and I love all the characters as well. I really was super invested in the storyline of Rory's family as well and hope we get a reunion scene in the next book. I do still have a few unanswered questions from this book so hopefully, they will be answered in the next one. Great read!

and what she does is great: more world-building

I'm already a fan of Dessa Lux's other werewolf romances, but I think here she's able to do a lot more with the longer format, and what she does is great: more world-building, a more complex plot, space to let her characters grow. This is a book full of the domestic details of life together, and yet I never got bored.

One of the things I especially liked is that even the antagonist for the main plot development is treated with compassion, not demonized. He does a lot of harm, but his motivations make sense. In contrast, the characters from Rory's past are more like your standard villains, but the author sketches in this back story with restraint, keeping the focus on the present where it should be. The problems Beau and Rory face in their relationship feel real, they make real mistakes, and they earn their happy ending through a lot of hard work. And the happy ending goes beyond the couple to address our basic need for community, something I could not agree with more.

One thing I noticed is that this werewolf society seems to have pretty strong gender roles (if we count "omega" as a gender). I am still thinking about whether this is negative or positive; but one thing I definitely like was how the book emphasizes the value of knowledge and ways of being that aren't coded in a masculine way -- midwifery, child-rearing, and household tasks aren't so much romanticized as simply affirmed to be essential, valuable parts of life. That's a point worth making, and I think the author makes it well
