A Grenadian transplant, Avril now lives in Tucker, GA, with a madly tolerant husband. Together they raise an eccentric daughter who’s pretty meh about reading and school. Avril’s earliest memories of reading revolve around discussing the plot points of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys with an equally book-minded mother.


Always in love with the written word, Avril finally decided to do the writing in August of ’09 and never looked back. She’s been nominated for numerous awards, including Best Author, Best series (Brooklyn Sinners), and Favorite All-Time Author. In 2013 Avril won Evernight Publishing’s Reader’s Choice Award for the LGBT (Male/Male) category. Recently she took home the Golden Ankh award for best Male/Male romance for her bestselling novel, Sinner’s Fall.

    Author Avril Ashton has killed it with *Scars and Secrets* ..... Her writing was *tight*, explosive, gritty, raw, dirty and very *delish*. It reminded me of the *Brooklyn Sinners series*. I was captivated by the hypnotic story telling, and was so engrossed, that I finished this book in one sitting.

    *Scars and Secrets* tells the story of two flawed men, Levi Nieto and Donovan Cintron, men we have met before as secondary characters in previous books. In this book, their journey towards their HEA was brilliantly crafted, filled with sorrow, betrayal and a second chance at love. Although the ride was painfully heartbreaking, the chemistry between these two dysfunctional men, was undeniable.

    The *Feels*, in this book.........DAAAAAAAYUUUUUUM...... This author is a gifted storyteller who has the ability to entice and hold her readers spellbound by her titillating writing. This book had me cussing like a drunken sailor, doing my ugly cry and cheering like a customer at a strip club, all at the same time. My emotions were so highly charged, I felt bipolar.

    I was in HOG'S HEAVEN when certain individuals entered the pages of this book. Each secondary character played a pivotal role in the lives of the MCS, and that connection was vital to the story. It *represented* six degrees of separation of a *family unit* and a continuum to events or circumstances. I truly enjoyed this cleverly written book..... However, once again careless mistakes were made. (A great editor and better Beta readers are recommended)..........

    This book is a wonderful book. The story of deception, lies, and miscommunication keeping two lovers apart and sending each into emotional spirals is very worth reading. This is only the second book of this author's that I have read and I have enjoyed both books. While I enjoyed this book immensely along with the story of Levi and Donovan, I did have a few issues.

    1. The array of supporting characters is immense and come from the author's previous novels. I had to look up and write a list of which series each character / couple was in. I haven't read any of these so this left me a little confused. And because I cannot stand not knowing, I will go back and read each one! ;)

    2. Some of the backstory/descriptions seem to be missing. The author does state in a beginning note that she had been sick and had 3 or 4 different versions of this book. It is noticeable. There are descriptions that are incomplete. Some of the reasoning / action is not explained fully. Also, there are some instances where it story seems to jump from one scene / character to another with absolutely no transition.

    As a whole, the book is what I expected after reading the prequel. It was a mostly well-crafted story and the characters were engaging up to a point. This book dragged a little more in placed than the prequel.

    Despite the "bad" stuff I have outlined, I am glad I have found this author and will definitely read more from her. AA writes beautiful characters and stories which tend to be a little dark, which I LOVE. This book is well worth the read.

    OMG! This book was fabulous, amazing, sexy, hot and heartbreaking. The feels for days! I read this book in one sitting. And then went back and re-read all the heartbreaking moments/scene. The characters pain, anguish, love past and present was so real. It made you feel for them! I was sniffling with goosebumps all over my arms. I loved how some past favorite characters from the Sinners book make cameo's!

    The elevator scene between Van and Levi was beyond hot as well as the scene with Is and Reggie with a certain vegetable! Insane I tell you! Seeing JP and Pretty Boy was amazing! I was so into the story that it made me feel like I was part of it. Av weaves all of these incredible stories, she's such an amazing author. She is and will always be an auto buy for me.

    This is my second favorite book from Avril, the first being Love the Sinner (Brooklyn Sinners series) with Angel and Cop! Scars and Secrets will be another book from Av that I will be reading over and over!

    Run don't walk to your favorite book site and buy this book! You won't regret it! And while you are there buy her entire Brooklyn Sinners series too! Cannot wait for Dutch and Patel's book!

    As usual this author does not disappoint! This book was long awaited and it was so worth the wait. If you are a fan of this author, this book will not dissapoint. It had pain, it had love, and it had grit. Levi and Van were explosive! But you got to see them work through past hurts and find their way back to each other. It was beautiful to see. You get to know and understand them more and why they work the way they do. They are different, we may not understand it, but it's them. And it works. You can't help but feel for them and love them.
    The author did a tremendous job with this book. I could not put it down. Finished it in one go. I enjoyed it immensely! Now I eagerly wait for book 2!

    Oof. I had certain expectations and mixed feelings for this one. Even though all the insights you get through other books into their relationship made me think there wasn't much left to surprise me.. Seeing it all unfold up close was something else entirely. You're doing those heart-wrenching emotions so incredibly well, it's addictive. Also the way you managed to weave all these characters/couples together but somehow still make room for them all to shine (and intrigue) on their own (especially for peeps who might not know them already) is outstanding.
    If I wasn't hooked already I'd be hunting for all the appearing characters' books right the f now. Chapeau, lady - you did it again!👏🏼

    I stayed up until 5 am just so I could finish this book in one sitting. I was not disappointed in the least. It was a great book, and I just sorry it had to end.

    Avril has done it again. The Sinner series were some of my favourite books and I was so glad to see some of the characters show up in this book. I am also so glad to finally find out what happens between Van and Levi.

    Well worth the lost hours of shut-eye!!

    Der zweite Teil handelt vom FBI Agenten Donovan Van Cintron und seinem Ehemann Levi. Der Sohn Izek spielt eine eher untergeordnete Rolle.
    Es gibt sehr viele Figuren, die alle in vorherigen Serien oder nachfolgenden Büchern ihr Schicksal erfüllen.
    Ein nicht ganz kurzes, stellenweises langes Buch, das insgesamt ein gutes Leseerlebnis war.

    This was a bit of a difficult read. I can tell that it was a labour of love for the author but it was all a bit disjointed for me.

    Had I been given time to fall in love with Levi and Van (and even Izek) this would have been so much more fulfilling.

    I'm VERY disappointed that I was denied living through the betrayal with Levi and the heartbreak with Van.

    I would've happily read this over 3 books itself. The majority of this one feels like what should've been the end of a nice long series for me to sink my teeth into.
