About the author

Isabelle Peterson is the author of Intoxicating Romances weaving her love of wine and cocktails into steamy, swoonworthy love stories. She’s a Chicago suburban girl living in coastal Connecticut with her husband of more than twenty-eight years and nine-pound Shih Tzu. She’s also the mother of two incredibly smart and talented young adults. When she's not writing, Isabelle can be found creating a new cocktail or enjoying a favorite one, savoring a good glass of wine, cooking or baking. In fact, if she weren't a creative writer, she'd probably be a bartender or chef somewhere.

Sex clubs, flogging, whipping, restraints, and ball gags… Do I have your attention? Yah, I thought so. You get this and so much more in Not in my Wildest Dreams. Besides just the kinky sex you get a deeper look into our beloved Jack: the young and dumb boy with a dream, the model, the friend, the student, the Dom, the Sub, and the business man. Izzy delivers another steamy read for book 2.
In Not in my Wildest we see Jack take off for New York on his journey to success. He picks up without a second thought (much like Elizabeth did), and leaves behind everything he knows, even though his family doesn't approve. We get to find out more about him and “B” (Becca), how he finds BDSM and the relationship he and Becca have with this sexual culture. We see what makes the sexual sides of Jack tick.
I love books with strong friendships and I was definitely a fan of the friendship between Jack and Becca. They help heal each other and explore their sexuality in the sex clubs of New York. I like the fact that the strong friendship was highlighted for Jack. In most books the strong bonds we read are the female characters friends. I also enjoyed that the friendship was between opposite sexes. Jack and Becca may have had a sexual relationship but I believe it was emotional (friendship wise) first and foremost. Even a lot of their sexual acts were really about emotion; neither one loved each other romantically and often times when they "played" or received "punishment" it was really about something emotional going on with them they were trying to work through.
My one complaint about Not in my wildest dreams is I would have liked a lot more new material. The book was shorter and there were a lot of flashbacks from book 1. I would have liked less flashback and more new material. I can't get enough, alright?! :) I'm greedy. But if this is the only complaint I have for a full book, well I’d say I should probably shut up and stop complaining right now. So moving on…
I guess we have to talk about him, even though he is probably the "type" of man that drives a lot of woman to this genre of books in the first place. Time to talk about Greg. He is a prude. Maybe that's just my anger talking. There is nothing wrong with not being into kinky sex or BDSM, but he has sex with his wife once a week on Friday. Not only that but I don't believe he had even noticed she had never had an organism with him, ever! He must have noticed the difference from their sexual act in book 1 at the hotel from what went on between them the last 20 years. He’s selfish and seems like a man who thinks woman are there only to be a stereotypical wife. He works too much and expects Elizabeth to be his personal maid, short order chief and arm candy for business and sporting events. Okay, enough about him. So long Greg!
Excerpt:
I remembered standing there in his foyer, the tears... flowing, the ache in my chest...unbearable. How could I have walked away? And returned to... this. A life with a husband who was apparently incapable of change.
Oh Elizabeth... I hate to say it, but yah... I told you so. Those were my thoughts exactly when she left. In book 1 she walked away from a beautiful proclamation, a cardinal sin in my book. I'm glad she finally see's how crazy that was.
During Ditching the Dream I was firmly on board Team Kevin. Kevin, I still have love for you but this new addition to the series helped me fall even more in love with Jack and more in love with Elizabeth and Jack. If you haven’t read the series I suggest you click straight from here to whichever site you buy your books from and order it now!
But...
Too much replay.
I totally understand, from an author's pov, why Ms. Peterson did what she did, using those flashbacks, but for someone who read the first book followed by the second, it was tedious. I ended up skimming them instead of saying, dreamily, "Oh, yea, I remember that..."
Surprisingly, the only suggestion I would have given her was to begin the flashback, as she had, then just after a few lines, used an ellipse. If the reader had not read book one, that would have (hopefully) intrigued them enough to do so. And for the reader who had read it a while earlier, s/he could choose to reread it again. For someone who had recently read part 1 and then part 2, it wouldn't have been so repetitive.
Having said that, the story was so great that it didn't deter me from finishing the book. I'll read more of Ms. Peterson's work.
Jack Stevens began his career as a stock boy at his local grocery store in Charter Oaks, Colorado. He was approached by a modeling scout one day, dropped everything, and drove to New York, in hopes that he can pursue a career, one that doesn’t involve his ranch back home.
We follow Jack as he grows up. We watch him turn from an angsty teen, to a busy, mature model, to a grown businessman. We watch him try his hardest to get Elizabeth back. We learn his secrets, we learn why he is who he is. We get to know the real Jack Stevens.
From the first novel, I didn’t like Jack. I thought he was mean and arrogant, and only wanted Elizabeth for sex. This novel changed my mind. I am in love with Jack now. Don’t get me wrong, I am still one hundred percent team Kevin (which by the way, back off Kevin. Izzy gave him to me), but I don’t hate Jack anymore. I got to see why he is how he is, and that he has had a hard life. There’s more to Jack Stevens than meets the eye.
I give this novel five stars. It was very well written, very well edited (wink, wink), and just amazing in general. The story line was fantastic, I felt that I got to really know Jack. Izzy does a fantastic job of going through many decades and not making it feel choppy. Great job!
Izzy is also very great with description. She paints vivid pictures with her words, which I love. I could picture everything she described with no problem. Love it!
Izzy, I freaking love your work! I can’t wait to read Kevin’s story! Don’t forget, he’s mine!

Probably about 2/3 of this book is actually Jack's story. At first, i wanted to hurry up and get to the bit where he finds Beth again, but then his story actually got quite interesting. So bear with it. I think you'll find it helps you to figure him out a bit better.
Kudos to Elizabeth for attempting to mend her marriage...i'm really glad this was written into the storyline because i felt this honoured her 20year marriage and she wouldn't have to look back on it and regret not allowing her self and her husband to at least try to fix things. I guess you need to know that you've exhausted the opportunities so that you have some closure before moving on. I really liked how the realistic and raw emotions were shown to us, from all characters.
Loved the happy ending and thoroughly enjoyed books 1 and 2 of this series.
