The instruction booklet to build the model is easy for her to follow, as well as easy to save her place when she returns to her studies.
The pieces are typical Lego quality for ease of construction, durability, ability to hold together well.
Got it at a good price, which made it a good value for the money.
Let’s be clear: the leading brand is the leading brand for a reason. If they made this kit, it would likely be $150 - $200 item. So, for $59.99 I was willing to take a chance.
Overall it built very well. The instructions weren’t hard to follow for someone familiar with building these sorts of kits. There wasn’t a significant difference in the instructional approach from the leading brand and the instructions had a wonderful introduction to the Great Wall that I do plan to read for fun.
Most of the build itself went well. Unfortunately it is VERY hard to get the larger base pieces to fit and stay in place, and there were a few other pieces that just refused to snap together tightly. The fit wasn’t perfect for them, which at times made the build more challenging than it needed to be. A few other pieces really required some force to get together which may make some people nervous.
I should note here the individual brick quality was almost 100%. There was one malformed brick in the whole set but enough extra pieces that I could swap it out. I was only missing one small piece that unfortunately didn’t have a replacement but it was a very minor inside piece that isn’t structural or noticeable. After that I had well over 30 extra pieces of various types.
I got the whole thing together with only minor headaches of pieces popping up. Everything seems to be pretty stable now. It is clear this is a decorative set and not intended to be played with at all.
That said it does remind me quite a bit of the actual Great Wall and I suspect looking at it every day will make me remember that amazing experience.
Overall I’ll give this 4 stars. I wish the base pieces were a little better at staying put, but again this is an off brand set and much cheaper. I love having it, and I see that sets can be joined so I may just buy another one and make my wall twice as big!
