Product Description

Do you have the skill – and nerve – to survive the horrors of a broken world in this massive open world action adventure?

Step into the dirt flecked shoes of former outlaw biker Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter trying to find a reason to live in a land surrounded by death. Scavenge through abandoned settlements for equipment to craft valuable items and weapons, or take your chances with other survivors trying to eke out a living through fair trade… or more violent means.

With humanity devastated by a global pandemic and ravaged by feral creatures known as Freakers, any mistake could be your last in your attempt to carve out a new life in the hostile Pacific Northwest high desert.

A Dynamic World
Using the power of PlayStation 4 and Unreal Engine 4, Days Gone offers an incredibly realistic and detailed open world action game experience. Vast and hostile environments can be fully explored on the back of Deacon’s drifter bike. Abandoned vehicles can be searched for useful items. Towns and buildings can be entered and searched – at great risk. All lighting is done in real time – eye adaption technology creates a real sense of dread when entering dark buildings; day and night have an impact on the experience; weather affects enemy behavior.

Brutal Sandbox Combat
Exemplifying true, free form gameplay, Days Gone offers freedom to explore, strategize and play “your way.” Every challenge can be approached and completed in an almost infinite number of ways. Many different items and weapons can be crafted using items found in the field, including brutal melee weapons and traps. Customizable weapons and skills offer true freedom in how the game is played.

Unique Enemies
In addition to human drifters, marauders, and other groups, Deacon must face a wilderness overrun by Freakers – mindless, feral creatures, more animal than human but very much alive and quickly evolving. Freakers have needs, habits and behaviors that the player can learn and adapt to.

Unique Setting
The harsh high desert of the Pacific Northwest offers a large variety of environments in a single geographical area. One minute Deacon can be riding through a pristine forest, a snow field, a lush meadow, and the next, be in the harsh desert lava fields. The hazardous environments, scarred by millions of years of volcanic activity, are defined by ancient lava flows, mountains, caves, cliffs and river basins, delivering a breathtaking backdrop to an equally diverse style of gameplay. Cinnabar mines, lava tube caves and small rural towns offer a variety of environments to explore.

Let me start by saying I really want to love Days Gone. I actually enjoyed the overall package from beginning to end, and had high hopes for it, but sadly this was not the case. It is clear the developers focused more on making sales to recoup their small budget then actual gameplay. Here are my takes after beating the game (hard difficulty)Pros: the style of play and visuals is similar to uncharted, grand theft auto, and fallout. When cinematics happen, the graphics are very good, and general gameplay looks good as well. The engagement: playing through the story is very engaging. You start off very basic and not having any skills to do anything, outside of riding your bike, and shooting freakers (zombies). But in my opinion, this is what drove me to want to keep playing. The more you play, the more and faster you level up, unlock bike upgrades and can buy stronger weapons. By end game, you are almost a walking tank and nothing can touch you. So satisfying!Neutral: the story(SPOILERS); granted I think the story is good, the idea of Deacon trying to find his wife was told good, I would have preferred if the developers didnt follow such cliche storytelling, with him finding his wife in the end. I think going a different route and having him conquer his inner turmoil of losing his love would have been a much welcomed and unexpected outcome but that's how they decided to end it. Also, the main villain's motivation are soooooo bland, it's really annoying this wasnt thought out more.Cons: The BIGGEST con to this game was the launch of the game. I dont know if the developers didn't play the game before final execution, but this game is super buggy as of this review. 7 patches were issued, and it still did nothing. Dropped frames were the main reason I sent this game back; you literally couldn't do anything, in any direction, without frames dropping constantly. It would take you out of gameplay instantly and made any true enjoyment not worth having. My next big issue was one if the mechanics, the resource wheel. You are given a "wheel" you must prompt to change weapons, apply health, or build bombs, and this was not thought out thoroughly either. Because you have to use the joystick to go in and out of options, at times, you will select an item, and upon leaving, the item you chose does not come up. This became annoying, especially in tense situations, causing you to repeat it until you got it right. My last issue are with the hordes. They are actually challenging, and enjoyable to fight and even more enjoyable to defeat, but like I mentioned earlier, once you reach a certain point, you are almost unstoppable. Even the largest horde in the game, if leveled up right, cannot stop you, which then makes playing less appealing in my opinion.Overall, a good game I REALLY wanted to keep, but the amount of buggy gameplay took me out of it.
