Enerwave ZWN-RSM1-Plus Z-Wave Plus Smart Switch Relay Module

Turns Your Standard Switches Smart

Take your home to the next level without changing out your original wall switches! The Enerwave ZWN-RSM1-Plus Z-Wave Plus Single Relay Module installs behind standard switches to upgrade them to Z-Wave switches and enables remote control from an internet browser or smartphone app. Get the best of both worlds by keeping your unique switches and adding Z-Wave functionality to those switches. Its slim size fits in most wall boxes and can control one set of lights, a fan, or a single appliance (one load).

Z-Wave Plus

This ZWN-RSM1-Plus module is a Z-Wave enabled device and communicates with most Z-Wave enabled networks. The ZWN-RSM1-Plus Switch Module is a component of a lighting control system. Utilizing the Z-Wave Plus 500 chipset, this smart relay switch is compatible and backward compatible with most Z-Wave gateways, including VeraEdge, Vera, and SmartThings.

A neutral wire is required for this Z-Wave module to work correctly.

Specifications:

  • Upgrades wall switches with Z-Wave functionality
  • Utilizes Z-Wave Plus and is backward compatible
  • Z-Wave hub required
  • Voltage: 120-277VAC
  • Max Load: 10A
  • Neutral wire required

Dynamic Functions

After installation and inclusion to the Z-Wave network, this single relay switch enables wireless control of lights, fans, and other appliances from any distance using an internet browser or smartphone app. Through the Z-Wave hub, utilize timed commands to create schedules, or program the module into scenes, groups, and associations for interaction with other Z-Wave devices. This module works with the Alexa app for voice control. A compatible hub is required for these functions.

Next Gen Automation with Z-Wave Plus

More with Z-Wave Plus

This Z-Wave relay module utilizes Z-Wave Plus, which provides energy efficiency, faster operation, better RF coverage and easier installation. It is backward compatible with Z-Wave classic devices and hubs. Z-Wave Plus unifies all connected home devices into an integrated wireless network and helps them communicate with one another.

Compatibility

Connects to smart home network via a Z-Wave Plus or classic hub, such as VeraEdge, VeraPlus, SmartThings, Homeseer, Wink, and Zipato. A Z-Wave Plus enabled hub is required to achieve Z-Wave Plus functionality.

A neutral wire is required for installation.

Acts as a Repeater

Once the ZWN-RSM1-Plus is connected to your smart home network, it will retransmit the RF signal from one device to another until the intended device is reached. In a Z-Wave network, each device is designed to act as a wireless repeater. This ensures that the signal is received by its intended destination by routing the signal around obstacles and radio dead spots.

My favorite smart switch solution
5 Stars
My favorite smart switch solution
I have three of these Enerwave relays (one single and two duals). They work as advertised with Smartthings. I love that this allows the standard switch to continue to function normally, while also allowing for smart control. The main thing I didn’t understand before installing is how the switch behaves after install. I had a single switch so up was always on, down always off. So much so my physical switch has “on” and “off” labeled on the toggle switch. Once you install the relay behind the switch, the single switch behaves like a 3 way switch. Up and down no longer indicate the state of the light/fan. You just have to reverse the switch to reverse the state of the light/fan.I have 2 of the Honeywell / Jaysco switches that handle the position issue by being spring loaded so the toggle deflects up or down and returns to the middle. The Honeywell is much larger, and is a bit different than a standard switch. My wife was mildly annoyed with the Honeywells, but she couldn’t tell the Enerwave was installed. The Enerwave feels like the same old switch because it IS the same old switch. The dual relays function just as well with the required Device Handler in SmartThings. The pricing of the Dual relay 2 pack is better than the single on a per unit price. The Dual Relay is only slight larger than the single so I’d buy the dual two pack going forward, even if I only had one switch to control. You might reconfigure things in the future and be all set with the 2nd relay on hand.My electrician friend tells me this works with 3 way switches so long as you install it in a box with both the hot and the load. In one of my installs I did have the hot and load in the box, so both of the physical switches work and the relay works. Other scenarios I didn’t have both in the same box so I couldn’t get it to work. Let’s just say this will work with 3 way switches in some circumstances. As they say your mileage may vary.Install is on par with any switch or outlet. It’s not rocket surgery, but may be out of reach for some. Always turn off the breaker when working on anything. An electrician should be able to install this without issue if you get stuck. All things said, this is a solid addition to my Smartthings home. My new favorite smart lighting and fan automation.
