Then there's a problem with the realism of the game's simulated fighters. To whit: the game features the F4F Wildcat and the F6F Hellcat. All well and good, *except the Wildcat is almost 60 kph faster than the Hellcat*. The Hellcat had 2000 horsepower. It was far more powerful (and faster) than the Wildcat. It was also far faster than the A6M Zero, but the game has the Zero at 100 kph faster than the Hellcat! I am certain many Japanese pilots would have liked to have that advantage during the war!
Not that that would have mattered. There's an issue with the planes' maneuverability as well. The Zero was an agile, aerobatic dancer. It could turn inside of a Wildcat or Hellcat if either American pilot had been dumb enough to get into a turning battle with a Zero. However in this game the Zero has no maneuverability advantage. Not only against other fighters, but also against such lumbering beasts as the TBF Avenger and the Devastator torpedo bomber. Imagine my disbelief when I got into a dogfight with a Devastator torpedo bomber AND MY ZERO WAS INCAPABLE OF TURNING INSIDE HIM AND GETTING ON HIS SIX O' CLOCK. Let's not even mention those mythical battles between Hellcats and Stukas, which never ever met. Hell, I had a Stuka that managed to turn with a Spitfire.
The levels and settings are very drab and unimaginative. There is nothing about the gameplay that is exciting, and it's also not very realistic. For one, a plane like a Spitfire or Zero was quite capable of pulling enough G's to knock out a pilot who pulled back on the stick too hard. That doesn't happen here at all.
This game was a complete waste of money. Any WW2 buff will be very, very displeased. Considering that I had a PC game from 15 years ago that featured more realistic gameplay and better graphics, and a better selection of planes, and you can see how little effort was put into making this game. Pass.
