A Smarter Camera Means Better Photos and Videos

    Smart AUTO

Getting that great shot is as simple as pressing the shutter button on the PowerShot ELPH 160 camera. Smart AUTO automatically detects scenes by assessing various factors in both the background and the subject and analyzes them using 32 predefined shooting situations. The camera then makes optimal settings to help ensure the best possible image capture, whether you're shooting stills or video. With Smart AUTO, all you have to do is frame your shot and capture away.

    Scene Modes

The PowerShot ELPH 160 camera provides shooting modes that easily give your shots a distinctly artistic feel without the need for any extra lenses and filters. You can make a quirky portrait using the Fisheye Effect or add a beautiful single-tone effect with Monochrome. Toy Camera Effect simulates a vintage look as if capturing the photo using a "toy" or pinhole camera.

    Shooting Modes/Special Scene Modes
Smart AUTO The camera automatically selects the best shooting settings for optimal quality based on subjects and environmental factors to provide point-and-shoot simplicity. Program The camera automatically and intelligently selects the aperture/shutter speed combination based on the shooting conditions. Live View Control Enables Brightness, Color, and Tone adjustments to your images using easy-to-understand controls. Digital IS The camera digitally corrects image blur by analyzing the subject prior to choosing the best correction method. Portrait Brings the subject into focus while beautifully blurring the background. Face Self-timer The camera waits for a face to enter the frame before releasing the shutter. Low Light For high quality image capture in an amazing range of dimly lit situations. Fisheye Effect Now you can get the fisheye effect – a classic photographic distortion – without a fisheye lens. Miniature Effect Give images a miniature look with an effect that emphasizes perspective by blurring the top and bottom of the image. Toy Camera Effect Simulates photos taken with "toy" or pinhole cameras, darkening the image at the edges to create a vignette effect. Monochrome Choose from three single-tone effects: Black-and-White, Sepia, or Blue. Super Vivid Super Vivid intensifies existing hues, saturating the scene with bright colors. Poster Effect Poster Effect combines several similar shades into one color, turning subtle gradations into eye-catching, scene-popping contrasts. Snow Shoot clear snow scenes without darkened subjects or an unnatural bluish tint. Fireworks Create brilliant images of skyrocketing fireworks. Long Shutter Use to blur moving subjects for artistic effect, ideal for urban night photography. Movie Record video; unwanted scenes can be deleted in playback mode.

Actual results may vary from examples shown above.

    Great little camera for beginners
Just being introduced into the world of photography and want a camera with a good name and reputation behind it? Here ya go.I have been a die hard Canon fan for over 30 years. For a point and shoot pocket camera I prefer the SX series over ELPH, however, the ELPH series are absolutely great for someone who is just starting out and doesn't want to get overwhelmed with changing settings, etc. I might be the exception to the rule, starting with a SLR camera when I was in high school, then moved on to getting a pocket camera to have something to carry around easily.(Note: SLR was not a typo. I began photography when we had to use actual FILM. I had my first digital camera back in the mid 90s and that thing was awful... no flash and I think it was 1mp. ha ha ha... Times have sure changed in the world of digital cameras!)This particular camera I bought used. The seller was honest in stating the shutter cover didn't close completely. But a Canon for under $20 for my teenage son to start learning how to take pictures was a gamble I just had to take. Since I've been using Canons forever, I know they are built on quality. There is a reason for their reputation... they make good stuff. When I received the camera, I realized there was a very small dent in front. Obviously the camera was hit or crushed by whoever owned it before me. The dent was preventing the shutter cover from closing. All I did was pull out the dent just a TINY bit (I have steady hands and am used to working on very small things because I make jewelry) and the shutter cover works perfectly. I tested it many times over and over, and the cover works flawlessly now. Aside from a small mark that indicates where the camera was hit, the thing is working perfectly as it was intended to. Perfect example of Canon quality and why I've been a fan girl for so long, and always will be.Please excuse the not-so-great quality of the photo of the camera, lol... ironic, but I didn't use a good camera to take the picture, I used my phone camera, which is not great quality. Anyway, you get the idea.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a Learning Camera
Reviewed in Canada on March 9, 2016
This camera is actually very good for the price, it's durable and can take fabulous photos in the *right* kind of light. It requires someone to know how to capture a good photo, as when light conditions are poorer it tends to downgrade in quality. The pictures can be fuzzy in low lit areas, so I would consider this perfect for someone who is 1. learning or 2. shooting outside or in lighter environments. Many reviews that photo quality in this camera tends to not be the greatest, but fixing this small factor can come down to to selecting proper lighting, scenery etc.

As someone who doesn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a camera, and is still not to learn the tips and tricks. This camera is perfect and very great at it's current price.

On top of this it's also durable, has a great battery and is also very easy to navigate and use. I have many important events during the summer and I trust this camera is going to able to churn out amazing photos

What it does lack though is 1. image stabilisation and 2. wi-fi feature. If you are searching for this features I would recommended getting the slight more expensive [[ASIN:B00RKNN322 Canon PowerShot Elph 170 IS (Black)]], which possess both of these features.

So if you're looking to learn and can play around with settings and environments this camera is perfect, if you want something able to withstand darker environments you may have to search further.
