I was a bit worried when ordering this product that the version I might receive would not have the ability to select what type of alerts you want to be woken up for. I ordered the Clam Shell package version of this radio and I am happy to report the following: The package had WR-120 written on it and a sticker that stated it was the WR-120C, this concerned me thinking that maybe this was NOT going to be the EZ version which has the alert select functionality. Once opened, I was happy to see that the model written on the back of the radio itself is in fact WR-120EZ.
For those who don't know, the WR-120EZ is the latest version of this radio. It has additional functionality not found in previous versions which includes the ability to select what alerts you want to hear (you can tell the radio that you don't want to be alerted to flood watches for example) and also allows you to setup your location without having to lookup the SAME codes.
Setup of the WR-120EZ is super simple and the radio is loud and sounds great. The radio functioned perfectly during our state-wide tornado drills yesterday and I am happy with this purchase. This is my first Midland weather radio, my previous radios have been Acu-Rite, and I think this radio is much easier to use than those, although I still like those hand held Acu-Rites as well.
I am happy!
Another very cool feature is to not have to worry about SAME codes. You just go to your menu, select "SET LOCATION" and click "SINGLE". You then select your state and scroll down until you find your county. When you find your county, select it. Then, your programming should be saved when you exit.
This particular radio, the Midland WR-120C is a great one. You can set it to only go off for your county, or your county and an adjacent county...or any such setup. If there's a severe storm/tornado watch/warning, it will turn on automatically and let you know...and then turn itself off after several minutes. You never have to touch the thing. There are several options for alerts on this radio...it even has an alarm clock. We've had ours for quite awhile now and have never had any reception issues, even though we're surrounded by trees and taller buildings. It's a very well-built piece of electronics, lasts a long time, gets great reception...what more can you ask?
I would recommend buying one of these for each level of your home...or one for every place that you can't hear one place to another, like if your house is long and a radio in the middle won't reach all the way front and all the way back...buy one for the front and one for the back.
We all have apps on our phones to let us know of bad weather...but if your phone battery dies...your power is out for an extended time...then you have absolutely nothing. With a Midland radio in your home, you'll ALWAYS have a source for alerts. The radio uses an AC adapter for power, but if electricity goes out, it relies on 3 AAA batteries for backup. As long as you have some of those (you should always keep them in the radio for immediate backup), you'll always be prepared.
ALSO!!!
If you are a business, school, public place of any kind...you need to have one of these radios. They're the most reliable way to know what's going on outside your walls. This radio is great for public places...if you can't get a signal with the radio itself, check out an external antenna such as this one: http://www.amazon.com/Sangean-America-Inc-ANT-100-External/dp/B0055Q5FIQ/ref=pd_sim_e_4
Please be safe and weather aware!

No requerí comprar antena.
