I'm writing my review as a amateur family photographer.I'm using D700 and have following lenses (All Nikkor lens);50mm 1.4G16-35 4G VR24-70 2.8G105 2.8G Micro, VR.So, first, this lens is big and a bit heavy. However, because you can leave other lenses (I carry 50mm 1.4G though), total weight I need to carry is much less than used to be.The focusing is ok, not super fast like 105mm 2.8G Micro VR and 24-70mm 2.8G. But it is accurate and even so in dark room. Third party lens such as Tamron often gets in panic when we try to focus in low light condition, but this one doesn't.The max aperture is 3.5, and gets darker quickly when you zoom in. So you need a camera body which has a good high-ISO performance such as D700 or D3S ( I don't know about D7000 yet). But if you use this lens on these cameras, it's way to go! You'll love it!Finally, the image captured by this lens is quite sharp and the color is really good. I was thinking which lens, the new 24-120 VR f4 G or this lens I should buy, but am totally happy with my decision. The only problem I have so far is (and this is a minor problem), the hood. When it's in use, the lock isn't as tight as other lenses. There is still some play in its lock position. As I heard same complaint from others, I think this is a Nikon's mistake in this lens.As conclusion, I'd recommend this lens to people with Nikon FX cameras. It's a really good all around lens.
