Start Your Aquarium Off Right:

Tetra SafeStart lets you instantly add fish without waiting the typical amount of time to establish the bio-filter. A patented bacteria blend works quickly to remove dangerous ammonia and nitrate so that you can get started immediately with your new aquarium. SafeStart is ideal to use when adding new fish, after medicating, and for all new aquariums.

Creating a healthy, safe aquarium environment for your fish from the beginning is important, so quickly establishing the correct water levels and helpful bacteria in the aquarium is why Tetra has introduced SafeStart. So whether you're a beginner or a pro, be sure to use SafeStart when adding new fish to your aquarium.

How it Works:

SafeStart works by introducing all of the beneficial bacteria needed your new aquarium needs to thrive. New filters are sterile and take up to 30 to 40 days for bacteria to naturally form; this makes SafeStart an important first step in any new aquarium. Do you need to instant cycle a tank? Are you putting a bunch of fish in immediately? Tetra Safe Start Plus is for you - provided you're a good fish parent and keep your eyes glued on your readings - and take into account the following points.1.) TSS is a bottle full of live bacteria. Bacteria are susceptible to temperature swings and don't have a long shelf life. If your bottle is near expiration your results may vary.2.) Don't buy the minimum. If anything, drop the coin to put far more in. A 29 Gallon that I wanted to make sure instant cycles? I put two 250Ml bottles in. $24 (current price is $12 per bottle) is cheap compared to losing fish. This has worked every single time. Bar none. One 100ml bottle took about a week to cycle a 29gallon & required water changes to make sure the fish survived, but the cycle was still successful.3.) Test, test, TEST. Get yourself a test kit. Remember that different fish put out different levels of ammonia. Live plants? Substrate? This can change your results from mine. Remember to check twice per day when your cycle doesn't seem to be taking hold fast. If you're seeing Nitrites show up, while that's bad, it does mean that at least other bacteria is starting to do the job. Don't listen to the bottle saying "don't water change". .25ppm ammonia will kill Neon Tetras in less than 3 hours. WATER CHANGE. I do up to 75% once per day in tanks where the chemistry isn't taking hold as fast as I need it to, and I drop a full bottle in afterwards. So far this has only happened once. In the end, that tank needed three bottles to stabilize. Can you get to a stable water chemistry without spending the cash for TSS? Absolutely. I tried it once in a ten gallon in my house the old fashioned way just to see what it took. I dropped a bunch of flakes in and after a few days the ammonia was at 5ppm. It took two months for it to be processed to Nitrite, then Nitrate. If you're in the hobby and want to be absolutely certain, why not just spend the coin and have peace of mind?
