Mine came wrapped in about 3 inches of bubble wrap inside an Amazon box. The hatchet was flawless and in brand new condition with no sign of being used. The head was in line with the handle. The bevel grind for the edge was uniform and even on both sides. The edge was perfect for a working edge on a hatchet (remember, this is a hatchet not a chefs knife). The handle was comfortable and solid. Mine was a brand new product crafted and finished well with no defects. The only thing I want this hatchet to do is pound tent stakes and split kindling... this hatchet is perfect for that. Mine cost about $12 at the time of this review... money well spent.

My immediate thought when I grabbed this axe was "Holy $%^&, this thing is heavy". Fatigue is a legitimate concern here. NOT a contender for a pack axe or primary home kindling splitter.
Next, I noticed the poor angled of the edge, wide, fat and dull.
I then stared at it perplexed for longer than I can remember, wondering why they put this odd curve to the handle and grip. It really add no advantage to the swing or splitting power.
STILL - for $10 this is a fine backup/throw away, give away axe. I can see myself spending about 5 minutes with a flapper disc correcting the sins of Coleman and making this a decently sharp and effective splitter.
It's heafy and built in such a way that brings some 80s nostalgia. I really think it'll last a long time and be purposeful with some tweaking.
Again, for the money, I can endorse this so long as you understand its caveats.
The curve on the end of the handle is not really helpful. Part of me thinks they are so cheap because the company is basically trying to liquid their inventory - mainly because of these types of shortcomings.
The weight is respectable for its small size. This is a hatchet at best.
This "hatchet" ships with a very wide blade angle. So it doesn't do near as well as it could mainly because it ships kind of... dull... After grinding the blade down to a better angle it did much better at chopping and biting into wood. You don't want it as sharp as a knife, obviously, that would cause it to chip or get stuck in the tree you are chopping up, but you do want it to penetrate on each whack!
That said, stock sharp it can work through less dense wood, but don't expect it to chop through a dry avocado branch.
The back of the blade head has a curve to it. Why? It is another shortcoming for this hatchet. Had it been flat you could use it as a hammer and other uses that require a flat back to the axe head.
It does have a hanging notch so you can put it on a nail on the wall. It does NOT have a sheath. But at stock sharpness you don't need one.
Overall I have mixed feelings about this hatchet. I have used many that had a stock sharpness that was much better and didn't have the above mentioned shortcomings so I give this a three. If we were just talking about price and if I hadn't used something much better I would consider this a four and a half stars perhaps. But knowing better I cannot suggest this unless you know you will be hacking at soft wood and/or need something dirt cheap.
