    Great but handles suck
I have a home gym and my wife and I frequently work out together so we needed another set of dumbbells. It made more sense to buy the 1090s instead of another set of 552s or dumbbells in sets up 5 increasing from 55. They are very similar to the 552s. They are built very well, I still would not drop them but a small drop from a couple inches is fine. So just about everything is great about them except for the handles. The handles are boxy in shape and have a aggressive knurl on them, using them with any weight over 40 pounds would destroy my hands. I reached out to bowflex about this problem and the customer service was great. They assumed the handles were defects and sent me new ones. Unfortunately it was not a defect set. So I needed a solution to theses handles, I was doing some research on the internet on how other users used them without getting their hands torn up and I stumbled upon a company called averagejoeinnovations they create handles and other parts for bowlfex dumbbells And they are great! Only thing is they’re a little pricey. The handles were 100$ for the pair plus 10$ shipping. But they are very very worth it, I have no problem now using these even up to 75 on dumbbell bench press and 80 on dumbbell rows. With the old pair they would have killed me. So if you have gotten to the end of this yes I would recommend these to anyone but the handles need to be changed. If you don’t think you will need anything over 52 pounds then get the smaller ones but these are a great addition to the gym.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps weight room organized, fast and easy to adjust
Reviewed in Canada on January 6, 2024
Have used these heavily for about 4 years, both myself and my son in a weight room set up in part of the garage. Placed on a base with rollers so that they can be moved around the weight room easily. Weight room also has a hard rubber locking pad over cement floor for comfort so weights are protected from being placed directly on a cement floor. Both of us use these and am very happy with these. Only setback is when using them for some exercises the length of the bar is very long and some conscious effort is required to allow full range of motion. Not an issues, just have to watch style. For the range of weights and room that they free up this is a very small issue. Changing the weight is very easy and although we do not baby the weights we do not throw them around., Definitely recommend them.
