Is the moon really made of cheese? Is there really a man in the moon? If you're tired of answering these questions without evidence to support your claims, Replogle has your answer in this 12-inch globe. Resting on a clear plastic stand, the Moon Globe is not attached to the stand, so you can pick it up and explore the moon. Find where Apollo II landed, locate the Sea of Nectar, or find the Cordillera mountains and the Lake of Dreams. With a true-to-life colored background of the moonscape with three-dimensional shading, this globe has enough detail to keep any moon-obsessed student busy for hours. A supplementary booklet entitled The Story of the Moon comes with the globe and includes many facts about surface features, spacecraft probes, phases and changing appearance of the moon, tides, eclipses, and more. The booklet also includes an entertaining quiz section with problems and activities. Get ready for some moon gazing! --Heather Hawkins, mother of 2-year-old Duncan, is a 10-year veteran teacher of the arts and a professional actor and director.

This is a free standing globe that sets on a clear plastic stand. Nice 12" size. Looks and feels like a quality globe.
This globe is meant to be picked up and held. Very detailed craters and seas/plains are marked and named. I had no idea so many famous names were used for objects on the moon. The more you look the more you see. East and west terminators are marked so you know when you've reached the "DARK SIDE" Luke.
This has become a favorite here at the house. This is not a flash in the pan gift and might be ignored at first but if picked up, it will spark the imagination. A gift that gets better over time.
My only minor complaint is that it has all of the features labelled with the English translations of their names and not the Latin scientific names, which is what we use in class. I would reverse the order of the parenthesis and the stated names, but that is a minor gripe at best. I am satisfied with my purchase and would encourage others who want a moon globe to try one of these.
The bad news is minor. There are some small constructional flaws.
In one or two places the paper gores covering the papier-mâché globe don't fit quite right, so a narrow (a millimeter or so) sliver of beige cardboard is visible.
The printing which extends across gores doesn't always line up perfectly.
The joint between the cardboard hemispheres, around the lunar equator, aligns pretty closely but not perfectly. The joint is covered by what looks like a narrow band of clear plastic with little tick marks at intervals of 5 degrees of lunar longitude. Whether that will stay in place or fall off with age I can't tell yet.
The northern and southern hemisphere meridians of longitude don't line up exactly all around. They are perfectly aligned at extreme east and west, but drift a bit in between. This misalignment is small, a degree or so at most.
All this is trivial stuff, nowhere near enough to dock a star.
Overall, the oddest thing about this globe is that it doesn't really look like the moon. Visually, the moon's extensive maria are much darker than the rest of the landscape, but on this globe everything's a uniform light gray color. But I knew that before I bought it. There is a newer (and more expensive) globe on the market which shows the maria as darker regions.
The vendor was fine; nice fast shipping, no damage to the box or the product.
Overall, I'm happy to add this to my stash of terrestrial and sidereal globes.
This little guy is very particular and he spends a lot of time studying the planets. He pointed out many landmarks as soon as he got it out of the box, so it must be pretty accurate. Great product -whatever problems it had must have been resolved. Thank you for excellent service!
Although I gave my moon a single star, I anticipate that the company will replace it with a correctly constructed globe. That globe will indeed be worth a five star rating. The globe is beautiful and for someone who is interested in lunar observing it will serve as a handy reference. (But probably not completely replacing the laminated Sky and Telescope Field Map of the Moon)
